To Create
To ensure that there is a depth to our curriculum we have an ongoing focus on Design and Technology and Art and Design.
As part of this focus, each class from Pre-School to Year 6 focus on the concepts, content, vocabulary, knowledge and practical skill acquisition associated with subjects associated with creativity.
At the end of the term, depth (Chris Quigley Statements) and breadth (National Curriculum End Points) are assessed using analyse tasks and pupil conferencing.
Other areas of the National Curriculum will also be taught as part of this journey, but the skills associated with these 'invent' subjects forms the driver for the learning journey.

Implementation
Our pupils should be able to organise their knowledge, skills and understanding around the following learning hooks:
- Master practical skills
- Design, make, evaluate and improve
- Take inspiration from design throughout history
These key concepts or as we like to explain them to children – learning hooks, underpin learning in each milestone. This enables pupils to reinforce and build upon prior learning, make connections and develop subject specific language.
Characteristics of an Artist

- The ability to explore and invent marks, develop and deconstruct ideas and communicate perceptively and powerfully through purposeful drawing in 2D, 3D or digital media.
- An impressive knowledge and understanding of other artists, craftmakers and designers.
- The ability to think and act like creative practitioners by using their knowledge and understanding to inform, inspire and interpret ideas, observations and feelings.

Impact of To Invent (To Create)
Assessment
Through the explicit teaching of the To Create knowledge, both the teachers and the pupils assess their learning continuously throughout the lesson. At the end of the unit, pupils use conferencing and an analyse task to reflect on their knowledge and understanding.
Our assessment systems enable teachers to make informed judgements about the depth of their learning and the progress they have made over time.
