2018 - 2019
JIA Awareness Fundraiser
Lily (a former pupil in Year 6) was diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis shortly after her third birthday. JIA is an auto-immune disorder that presents before the age of 16. Her medication weakens her immune system and if she is exposed to infectious diseases such as Chicken pox this could make her very unwell and would require a hospital stay. In honour of her fantastic attitude to life Mr Page wanted to do something to celebrate Lily’s time at Stonegate whilst raising funds for JIA @ NRAS and awareness of this rare disease.
In June 2019, the school was awash with purple as we supported the charity JIA. Lily from Year 6 led our assembly telling us what she has to do on a daily basis to manage her symptoms relating to this type of arthritis. Lily was incredible and spoke in front of a large audience with excellent confidence and clarity.
Over 50 members of our school community, walked, ran or cycled around Bewl Water to support this charity. The determination demonstrated by Lily and her friends was so impressive; there were children from Year 1 and 2 who completed the 13 mile adventure!
An extra special mention must go to Mr Page who demonstrated a super human effort follow his sleepdeprived week at the residential and completed his target of 4 laps (52 miles) around Bewl on his bike.
The activities to support JIA from these events raised over £7,500.
Cancer Awareness
2 girls from KS2 organised an event to support 2 charities helping families that have been affected by Childhood Cancer. Both of the girls had a personal link to these charities.
The girls led our assembly and described why they were supporting these charities. To raise money and awareness for these special organisations, they had their 12 inch pony tails removed .
To encourage their bravery, the school dressed up as Knights, Dragons and Princesses and had lots of fun in the process.
The day raised over £200 and the girls have together raised over £1,000.
They are amazing and we are so proud of them!
