Additional Support
Inclusion
Sometimes children require additional support and we provide for this through our Inclusion department which is coordinated by our Senco Team, Mrs Young (senco@stonegate.e-sussex.sch.uk) and Mrs Mortimer (cmortimer@stonegate.e-sussex.sch.uk).
Mrs Phoebe Cameron and Mrs Jessica Tabbah are our SEN Governors.
The school aims to give all children, whatever their ability, equal access to a broad and balanced education. Many children will, at some time in their school career, have special educational needs, requiring support over and above that normally offered in the classroom. The special needs coordinator is responsible, in consultation with class teachers, for identifying children with special needs and the subsequent provision of appropriate help. This will initially be provided within class or small group work. If necessary, help and advice will be sought from outside agencies. Very occasionally a statutory assessment will be made, leading to an Education, Health and Care Plan. All interventions are fully discussed with parents.
We have a dedicated team and facilities to address the needs of all our children and to help them overcome barriers to learning. We are able to provide 1:1 tuition , small group work, or nuture room activities so that every member of our school can achieve at, or above their potential.
Children who are identified as being particularly able, either academically or in the creative arts, are given extension and enrichment opportunities within the classroom, in order to make sure they fulfill their potential. They may also have opportunities to take part in special projects or in after-school clubs.

As part of our continuing development we have gained Dyslexia Friendly Status. Strategies which help dyslexic pupils learn effectively are often helpful in improving the learning of all pupils.
Disabled Pupils
The admission arrangements for disabled pupils are the same as for any other pupils. In order to provide the most appropriate environment and resources, early notification and discussion with the school and local authority is essential.
Gifted and Talented
Equally pupils who show a particular ability are encouraged to extend their work both in class and through enrichment activities, sometimes with pupils from other schools in the local Cluster.
If you would like anymore information on areas of Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Gifted and Talented (G&T) please contact either Mrs Young or Mrs Mortimer.
